There are many companies out there who will ship your vehicle, but you don't want to ship with just anybody. Price - The price that you are charged to transport your vehicle will probably be high on your evaluation list; after all, everyone likes to save money. However, you should also consider other factors that are included in that price, such as what type and amount of insurance is included, the experience of the company, and their reputation. Many times, you get the type of protection that you pay for. "Cheapie" companies are often cutting costs somewhere and you don't want your vehicle to pay the price.
Experience, Reliability, and Reputation - These three qualities should be the first things that you consider when choosing an auto transport company. Before any other factors are calculated in, you should cross off all the companies who do not meet the high expectations that you have for the care of your vehicle. You can use various Internet resources, such as the Better Business Bureau, state incorporation records, and customer reviews of the company, to verify their experience, reliability, and reputation claims.
Insurance - You want to be sure that the company you trust with your vehicle also has the insurance to protect you financially in case something does go wrong during the move. The type and amount of insurance coverage will vary from company to company. You should also verify whether the transport company's insurance is primary or if your own insurance company will be billed for the expenses first, with the transport company's policy picking up the rest of the tab. You don't want to take a hit on your own insurance rates for something that the transport company should be covering for you. This is especially important if you have a deductible on your policy.
Payment Structure - Each auto transport company will require their clients to pay according to a different payment structure. For instance, some may not require a deposit (although most do), some may require a smaller deposit of around 10%, some may require a larger deposit of 25%, yet others may require that clients pay their balance in full before the vehicle is transported. No matter which type of payment structure you agree to, you need to make sure that it is one that you are comfortable with.
Guaranteed Delivery Date - If you absolutely have to have your car delivered by a specific date, then it is crucial that you check your contract for a guaranteed delivery date and see if the contract allows them to be off of your agreed date by a few days.
Cancellation Fees - You should also be aware of any cancellation fees outlined in the contract. If your plans have the possibility of changing on short notice, you may want to choose a company with a smaller cancellation fee.
