Uber Update: Illinois Citizens Still Free to Choose… For Now

Previously we reported on a new bill that passed the Illinois Legislature and was awaiting Governor Pat Quinn’s signature.

We are pleased to announce that Governor Quinn vetoed the bill, much to the dismay of the taxi lobby.  He cited a belief that this issue was best handled at a local level, i.e. the Chicago City Council which has so far been unsuccessful at any efforts to shut down ride-sharing services.

Given that this is an election year and now apparently an election issue, it is unlikely any legislation that would harshly impact services like Uber & Lyft would be signed into law before November.

We celebrate this victory for Illinois consumers’ freedom to choose transportation options for themselves and not having Government choose for them.
