Thomas Gartland
Chairman and CEO, Montway Auto Transport
Tom Gartland serves as Montway’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, where he shapes the company’s trajectory, cultivates its corporate culture and steers the management team toward success.
From 2017 to May 2023, Tom was a Senior Advisor for AEA Investors and the Executive Chairman of Scan Global Logistics (SGL), a $3 billion global freight forwarder with operations in 45 countries and annual revenue growth of plus 30%. Tom led the successful transition of the majority shareholdings from AEA Investors to CVC Capital Partners. His rich history of strategic roles showcases Tom’s proficiency in contributing to the growth and prosperity of businesses.
John Cozzi
Co-Head of Small Business Private Equity and Partner, AEA Investors
In this role, John focuses on investment opportunities in the consumer and business services and industrial products sectors.
Before joining AEA, John was a managing director at Arena Capital Partners, a private equity firm that invests in small companies in the consumer and business services sectors. Previously, he was a managing director in the leveraged finance group of Credit Suisse First Boston and worked at Smith Barney, Harris Upham & Co. and NYNEX Corp. John received an M.B.A from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. in economics and computer science from Union College with honors.
Matt Hinson
Managing Partner, Kedge Capital Partners
Matt Hinson is the Managing Partner at Kedge Capital Partners, a lower middle market investment vehicle known for applying technology, strategy and data science expertise to improve business outcomes across multiple sectors.
Prior to joining Kedge Capital Partners, Matt held senior leadership positions at Transportation Insight, Rosetta Ventures, MullenLowe Group and Dish Network, where he led comprehensive technology and business strategy transformations, managed P&L in excess of $150MM, and participated in material domestic and international M&A transactions.
Dimitre Kirilov
Strategic Board Member
As former President and CEO of Montway Auto Transport, Dimitre Kirilov brings unique technology insights as a Strategic Board Member. After joining the company in 2010, he quickly demonstrated innovation in growing the retail market and business-to-business portfolio.
Dimitre began his professional journey in logistics at a trucking company, while simultaneously becoming a real estate agent and broker, maintaining his license until 2014. His experience with brokers and business partners in the freight industry, combined with his strong foundation in customer service, helps drive Montway’s growth and continued success.
Mike Mihaylov
Chief Executive Officer, MVII Capital LLC
Mike Mihaylov is the CEO of MVII Capital LLC as well as the pioneering founder of Montway Auto Transport. Alongside his business partner, Galya Svetlieva, he started the brokerage from their modest home office, providing top-tier shipping services to local dealerships and auctions.
In addition to his impressive portfolio, Mike is a founder and member of the board at Ship.Cars, a premier auto logistics technology provider. His innovative thinking and strategic leadership drive the company’s mission to revolutionize the car-hauling industry.
John Sedlacek
Principal, AEA Investors
John Sedlacek is a Principal on AEA’s Small Business Private Equity team and has nearly a decade of experience at the firm. In this strategic role, John focuses on investment opportunities in the industrials, services and transportation/logistics sectors.
Prior to joining AEA, John was an investment banking analyst at Berenson & Company in New York, concentrating on mergers & acquisitions and financings for clients in a variety of sectors. John earned an A.B. in economics from Harvard College.
Timothy Whelan
Partner, AEA Investors
Tim is a Partner on AEA’s Small Business Private Equity team and has been a valuable asset to the organization for over 15 years. In this role, Tim primarily focuses on investments in the industrials, consumer and services sectors.
Prior to joining AEA, Tim was a strategy consultant with The Parthenon Group in Boston in the firm’s private equity practice. During his time there, he developed acquisition perspectives for clients principally in the consumer products and services sectors. Tim earned an A.B. in psychology from Dartmouth College and an M.B.A. from Stanford Graduate School of Business.
