Mike has had an incredible year on the track in the Porsche Sprint Challenge and Carrera Cup. We asked Mike some compelling questions to get a behind-the-scenes look at his journey.
Q&A with Mike Mihaylov: founder, board member, and racing champion
Q: What is your background? Tell us about your journey with Montway Auto Transport.
A: About 20 years ago, I started a basic brokerage out of my home, providing shipping services for local dealerships as well as private vehicle owners, such as car collectors. From the beginning, we offered exceptional service and built a strong network of carriers. It’s been incredible watching Montway grow into the leading auto transport provider it is today. I’m still very involved, serving on the Board of Directors, and it’s fantastic to see the company continue to thrive.
Q: How did you get into racing, and specifically with Porsche?
A: My passion for cars has always been there, and eventually, that evolved into a desire to push the limits on the track. With their engineering and performance, Porsche was a natural fit for me. The Porsche Sprint Challenge and Carrera Cup offer a fantastic platform to compete with other talented drivers and hone my racing skills.
Q: Montway is your primary sponsor, what does this partnership mean to you?
A: Partnering with Montway means a great deal. The company I helped build is now directly supporting my passion. It also allows me to represent the brand on a different, very visible stage. It’s exciting to promote Montway in front of dedicated motorsport fans, drivers, and racing teams who often rely on expert auto transport services like ours.
Q: What are some of the highlights of your racing careers?
A: I fondly remember my first race win at Road America with the Porsche GT4 Clubsport. Other special moments include becoming a Porsche Club of America Champion in the GTD class, securing the title and becoming a champion in Europe in the GT4 class of Porsche Sports Cup Germany, and attending the Champions Award ceremony at the Porsche factory in Leipzig, Germany. Another top highlight was winning several races in Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East with the GT3 Cup Car in front of the Formula 1 crowd.
Q: What do you enjoy most about racing a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car?
A: What I love most about racing the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is the intense, heart-pounding excitement of this machine and its powerful flat-six engine that pins you to the seat. Its razor-sharp handling and grip let you carve through turns like a pro, sharpening your edge as a driver. It’s thrilling to endure gritty battles on track that culminate in unforgettable triumphs.
Q: What are your goals for the remainder of the racing season and looking ahead to next year?
A: Our main goal for the remainder of the season is to finish strong and clinch the Porsche Endurance Championship title with my co-driver Zachary Vanier. All eyes are on Road Atlanta in September—we’re putting everything into making that race count. As for next year…things are shifting, and what’s coming might just surprise a few people.
Q: Finally, how do you balance your demanding role at Montway with your rigorous racing schedule?
A: It’s definitely a challenge, but it comes down to effective time management. Both roles require a high level of focus and strategic thinking. My experience with Montway, understanding logistics and efficiency, actually helps me approach my racing with a similar methodical mindset. And honestly, the thrill of racing provides a great outlet and helps me stay sharp for all aspects of my life.
