- Provide pickup and drop-off locations, as well as details about the vehicle for an instant quote.

- On the designated date, a driver will pick up the car at your designated location and drive it to the port, where it will be loaded onto a boat. Alternatively, you can drive it to the Los Angeles port yourself.

Factors that influence the cost of shipping a car from Los Angeles to Hawaii
Even though the process is simple, it’s good to understand what factors influence the cost of shipping your car from Los Angeles to Hawaii.
- Vehicle type and condition. Knowing the exact specifications of your car is important. Larger vehicles or those with modifications may require transport adjustments that could affect the cost.
- Transport type. The type of transport you choose to get your vehicle to the port plays a significant role in car shipping. The most popular and cost-effective method is open transport. However, for luxury or exotic cars, or those with low clearance, enclosed transport with a lower lift gate is often necessary, though this comes at a slightly higher price.
- Time of year. Like many industries, auto transport experiences periods of higher and lower demand. When possible, plan your auto transport early and be flexible with your dates.

How to prepare your vehicle for shipping from Los Angeles to Hawaii
Before your vehicle’s departure date, it’s important to prepare your car with the following steps:
- Wash your car before transport to make it easier for you and the driver to inspect it for dents, scratches or other damage. You will sign a Bill of Lading (BOL) with this inspection at both pickup and delivery.
- Keep your fuel tank about ¼ full. Ocean carrier vessels transporting cars and trucks require vehicles to have no more than a ¼ tank of gasoline for safety reasons. If you have an electric vehicle, keep it at a 45-65% battery charge and include the charging cables.
- Remove valuables and personal items from the inside of the car, including GPS systems and custom stereos. The only exceptions are infant car seats (limit of 2) that are securely mounted per manufacturer specifications in your vehicle, a spare tire, a jack, floor mats and a set of jumper cables.
- Ensure your car is operational. Your vehicle must be in good operating condition. Your car MUST have fully functional brakes, including the emergency brake. The tires must be fully inflated and all windows should be intact. There should be no fluid leakage and no cracks, chips or damage to the vehicle. Lastly, ensure that all doors and windows can be completely closed.
- Disable your vehicle’s alarm or include the remote. If the vehicle has a factory or aftermarket alarm, the remote must be provided at the port or the alarm will need to be disconnected.
What to expect on delivery
You will be responsible for picking your vehicle up when it arrives at the port in Hawaii. There, you’ll give it a final inspection before signing the Bill of Lading, which is also the receipt for service. If at any point you have questions about transport, speak to a Montway shipping expert.
“I needed to move my 4Runner from California to Hawaii and chose Montway after reading many reviews. They were slightly more expensive than a couple of others I priced out, but the rave reviews persuaded me to pay a little extra for great service, and I’m so glad I did. The communication was consistent from the beginning. I knew where my car was at all times after it had been picked up. My car arrived on the island before I did! I was so excited. It took barely 2 weeks to arrive. The pickup process at the port was clear and the employees were very nice and helpful with every detail. I highly recommend Montway!” ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Shannon, 12/4/23
